ONDO State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has been honored by the Forum of Federal Health Institutions Nurses and Midwives (FFHINAM) with the Excellence in Mortality Reduction Award. The award is in recognition of his immense contributions to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the state.
The award presentation took place at the Federal Medical Centre’s Main Auditorium, Owo during the opening ceremony of the maiden edition of the Florence Nightingale week of the centre.
Mimiko, who expressed happiness over the recognition, promised continued collaboration of his administration with the institution in area of optimal utilisation of its equipment with a view to meeting the health needs of the people.
The governor noted that the institution as the only federal tertiary health facility in the state would not be left alone for its owner but the state government would continue to assist in certain critical areas because its major clients are the residents of the state.
According to him, the construction of the ultra-modern trauma centre being executed by his administration would soon be completed with the inclusion of its running grants in the state budget, adding that the integrated emergency medical scheme would soon take off.
However, Mimiko urged medical workers, particularly nurses to always uphold the tenets of the profession and never to indulge in any act that can destroy the profession, describing their action and inaction as the determinants of the quality of healthcare services in any hospital.
His words “I want to assure you that we shall continue to collaborate with this institution to ensure optimal utilisation of your equipment. We shall also increase your capacity to enable you meet the emergency cases of our people. I’m sure majority of your clients here are indigenes of this state and if not they are all Nigerians.”
