In recognition of the immense contributions of the Dr Olusegun Mimiko-led administration in Ondo State to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the state, the Forum of Federal Health Institutions Nurses and Midwives (FFHINAM), Federal Medical Centre, Owo on Monday conferred an Award of Excellence in Mortality Reduction on the Governor.
Mimiko, who expressed happiness over the recognition, promised continued collaboration of his administration with the institution in area of optimal utilization of its equipment with a view to meeting the health needs of the people.He stated that the institution as the only federal tertiary health facility in the State would not be neglected by the state government, but the state government would continue to assist in critical areas because its major clients are the residents of the State.
Mimiko, who stated that the construction of the ultra-modern trauma centre being executed by his administration would soon be completed with the inclusion of its running grants in the state budget, added that the integrated emergency medical scheme would soon take off.
The Governor also urged medical workers, particularly nurses to always uphold the tenets of the profession and not to indulge in any act that can destroy the profession, describing their action and inaction as the determinants of the quality of healthcare services in any hospital.
He said: “I want to assure you that we shall continue to collaborate with this institution to ensure optimal utilization of your equipment. We shall also increase your capacity to enable you meet the emergency cases of our people. I’m sure majority of your clients here are indigenes of this state and if not they are all Nigerians”.
“I want to appeal to our nurses to avoid anything that will prevent you from attending to your patients. This is a noble profession which you must be well handled. You must also avoid anything that can destroy the profession”. Said Mimiko.
The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Dr Olufemi Omotosho, in his remarks commended the state government for acceding to the needs of the centre not minding the fact that it belongs to the federal government.
Dr Omotosho also noted that the institution has continued to recruit more nurses to ensure effective healthcare delivery system.
