The Ondo State government, on Monday, said it was poised to achieve zero level of HIV infection in the state, just as it had trained more HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) service providers in a bid to increasing access to the service, particularly in the rural areas of the state.

The chairman of the Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ODSACA), Dr Aderotimi Adelola, who said this at the opening of a five-day training for health workers in Akure, on Monday, said the state was determined to stop new infections in various communities in the state.

According to him, the essence of the training was to achieve ODSACA’s goal on HCT which was to have at least one HCT site in each of the 203 political wards in the state.

Adelola, who spoke through the project manager of ODSACA, Dr Dayo Adegbulu, noted that towards achieving the agency’s goal on HCT and based on evidences from primary health care centres at the local government level, some staff were selected from the comprehensive and basic health centres for the training to provide additional 23 HCT sites in 23 wards.
