PSA And Prostate Cancer: Why The Connection Should Be Taken With A Grain Of Salt

When it comes to your levels of PSA and prostate cancer, they are not always as connected as it might seem. In fact, you could have great PSA test levels and still be in trouble, and vice versa.

Quite frankly, a lot of men have suffered greatly due to the false notion that just because you have high PSA numbers that means you must have prostate cancer.

When, in reality, that is not the case at all.

PSA and prostate cancer are not mutually exclusive.

And yet, the first thing everyone wants to get tested for when they start having prostate problems or simply reach the age where prostate cancer becomes more common is their PSA.

But you know what?

Your PSA is not even close to being the most reliable indication you have prostate cancer or not.

Especially since, so many men have had high levels of PSA only to find out they had no prostate problems at all... while others have had super low PSA levels and found out later they did have prostate problems.

A lot of things can influence your numbers.

Having sex can shift the numbers if you do it the day of or day before the test.

So can having an enlarged prostate.

In fact, there have been cases where men had their prostates removed simply due to high PSA numbers, only to realize they did not have cancer.

Scary thought, isn't it?

And this why the PSA and prostate cancer connection should be taken with a grain of salt.
