If you are wondering what your PSA levels mean, and how to improve them, then check this out. First, what does PSA mean?
Basically, it stands for prostate specific antigen.
And men who have elevated levels of this in their blood tend to have more prostate problems (including prostate cancer) than men who have lower levels.
However, that is not always the case.
There are many cases where a man had high PSA numbers and there is absolutely nothing wrong. And then, there are cases where a man had low levels of PSA only to have lots of prostate symptoms and even cancer.
So the point is your PSA levels are not necessarily the best gauge as to whether you have anything wrong with your prostate.
What is most important is what direction are they going?
In other words, when you get your PSA checked, did your numbers go up or down from the last time?
This is important.
Generally, you want your numbers to go down each time you get tested.
However, you should also realize that a lot of things can cause those numbers to fluctuate. Including doing something as simple as having sex the night before your PSA test. Or riding your bike a lot. Or having an enlarged prostate. Or any number of factors.
This is why in some ways the numbers are worthless.
But, they can be useful.
Again, what is the trend?
Are your PSA numbers going up or down over time? That is the question to ask.
