The Vital Prostate

The prostate is a vital organ of the body. Although the body can do without this organ, this organ is essential for a man's functioning.

To start off with what and how the prostate gland is, it is imperative, in fact, to know about the basics. The prostate is an exocrine gland which means that it is an organ that secretes what it secretes in a duct. That is a bit of explanation in relation to its name. As to its functionality, the very basic function of this exocrine gland is to secrete the alkaline seminal fluid that will be holding the spermatozoa which is necessary for life. This fluid is alkaline due to the fact that, during intercourse, the vagina's environment is rather acid, thereby killing the sperm cells that may enter. Without the secretion of the prostate gland, procreation would not be possible.

Men have, by birth, the prostate gland. As men grow older, so does this prostate gland. It increases in size as one age. Normally, the size of this is that of a walnut. It weighs about seven to eleven grams, normally, according to studies, as an average weight. It lies beneath the bladder and it surrounds the urethra. The significance of this is that, as people grow old, what is expected is the normal wear and tear of the body and that means that there are changes that happen.

Some of the male population of the west as early as fifty years or so, experience a sort of different kind of change in the prostate. This so is true with the other parts of the world. This change is rather unpleasant and disturbing. There would be frequency of urination or the opposite. It is important to take note that these inconveniences can lead to further significant disturbance in health. With the frequency in voiding and blockage, urination can be bothersome as it can wake you up in the middle of the night or have you go finding toilets during awkward moments or can bring about a tremendous deal of discomfort because of the pain that this brings.

Why is this so? This is due to an unhealthy prostate gland. Just because the prostate gland is having issues, the whole body suffers. That is why it is significant to take note of this organ.

There are medical conditions to be considered. There are at least three terms that are to be concentrated when talking about the prostate gland and prostate disease. The prostate gland is at risk of having Prostatitis, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Prostate Cancer.

These three occur because of what one eats and because of what one does not eat. Of course, also involved are the things that one does that may or may have not contributed. But first, a brief discussion on what these three are all about.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, in layman's term the "enlarged prostate", is a condition wherein the prostate size has exceeded the point of an inflamed prostate called Prostatitis. Prostatitis is an inflamed prostate gland that can be or moreover caused by bacterial invasion. This can also happen as a result of the body's compensation in relation to fighting a disease. As case to point out, when someone has Prostatitis, there is infection. The same is true with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. This is a rather broader subject as this, more often than not, happens in older men and has the effects of an exaggerating frequency of urination and urination stoppage. As the size of the prostate in this case is huge compared to the normal, the passage of urine from the bladder is either stopped or pushed because the size pushes the bladder or stops the passage of urine. The urine can't pass into the urethra making it inconvenient to impossible to void.

The prostate cancer has the same characteristic with an included growth of abnormal cells that usually spreads throughout the body that can produce more possible diseases. This prostate cancer is due to the body's accumulated estrogen content overtime. This is because the body has had too much protein in the body, from an uncontrolled diet. Protein adds up to the estrogen production. With estrogen that's in more than adequate in amount when you reach fifty years over, the body converts testosterone into Di-Hydro-Testosterone or DHT which, in turn, irritates the prostate gland an thus, as suggested, causes cancer.

Having mentioned the essential parts, it is imperative that one has a proper diet and exercise to help the body manage age and the changes that come with age. After all, ever since the dawn of time, without the presence of drugs and extensive surgery, man has survived the harsh conditions eating only food that is natural and unrefined.

Food can act as a means of prevention, cure and support. That is the difference between food and drugs. To help the prostate, one must choose the organic supplement rather than the manufactured ones. The body identifies drugs as something that is not welcome and therefore expresses its discomfort by means of side effects. With food, it is merely digested and there are no side effects.

This is what you can do for you and your prostate gland. Choose to live wisely and live longer with practicing natural means of coping by telling the body that it can stand on its own.
